Types of dumpster divers
If you are investing in Dumpster rental Orlando and you don’t have people digging through your garbage already, odds are that you will soon enough. While the economic downturn is putting more pressure on cheap ways to live, and homeless individuals aren’t going away, more and more are turning to trash to help get by. While in most places this is actually a form of illegal trespassing, the fact is that enforcement is practically nil and determined (or hungry) individuals can get into anything. Below is a short list of the general types of dumpster divers and what they are after:
1) Binners or Bottle collectors: In states where pop or soda cans are worth a recycling bounty, or areas where scrap metal or plastic can be recycled for cash, these individuals attempt to make a living by scrounging for returnables. You can often tell them by shopping carts and a general look of homelessness. According to some sources this tactic can make upwards of $40 a day, enough to eat off of and buy clothing.
2) Gleaners. People who look through upper end trash for items which can be repaired or traded to make money. Many from many walks of life (especially those seeing hard times) turn to this tactic.
3) Freegans & hipsters. A modern political movement, freegans insist on eating food discarded by supermarkets and restaurants. This sends a political message regarding the wastefulness of our society and allows them to live simply and cheaply. Others dumpster dive simply to save food costs, a trend rapidly increasing as people stretch to make ends meet.
